Job Description
Working in close alignment with the Sr. Director, Compliance Officer, Americas & RAC Business Partner, Global (Sr. Director), the Manager, Compliance Business Partner will work to develop and continuously improve the Olympus Compliance Management System in the region to ensure assigned entities, functions/divisions, and business groups conduct their business with the highest level of integrity. The incumbent delivers guidance to and partners with the Olympus regional organization to safeguard Olympus’s reputation, people, and business.
As a resource to the leadership and members of assigned entities, functions/divisions, and business groups, the incumbent will engage with Olympus leadership and management on a regular basis to develop strategic priorities necessary to ensure the Company’s Compliance Management System is effective and appropriate and that RAC resources and support are appropriately engaged. The incumbent will partner with assigned entities, functions/divisions, and business groups to reduce the overall risk exposure through targeted risk mitigation based on a comprehensive RAC strategy. The incumbent works with all members and levels of the Olympus RAC function, both at OCA and where appropriate globally, the Legal function, Human Resources, Finance, Internal Audit, and other functional and business areas and outside resources to ensure that Compliance Management System requirements and RAC requirements are fulfilled in an appropriate manner.
Job Duties
- Assists the Sr. Director with enhancing, further developing, implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving OCA's Compliance Management System to ensure that it supports and promotes a company-wide culture of compliance, enhances the reputation of Olympus, and minimizes risks of non-compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and meets or exceeds the standards set forth in published guidance from the U.S. Federal Government.
- Serves as the Compliance Business Partner for and is directly responsible to provide advice and day to day proactive ethics and compliance guidance to assigned Commercial Excellence groups, as well as the following groups in the Americas Marketing Communications, Social Media and Digital Media.
- Delivers guidance to and partners with employees and other Olympus representatives to safeguard Olympus’ reputation, people, and business through risk assessment, risk minimization strategies, continuous improvement activities, and corrective actions.
- Supports the development, revision, and implementation of compliance policies, procedures, and written standards, collaborates with business stakeholders in addressing their written standards and control documentation relating to or impacting the OCA Compliance Management System, contributes to the development, improvement, and implementation of a broad range of innovative training, education, and communication plans and tools to drive understanding of Compliance Management System requirements, and encourages employee ownership of compliance at OCA.
- Prepares and presents reports and dashboards to management regarding the Compliance Management System effectiveness.
- Serves as Compliance Program Manager, managing key projects and initiatives prioritized by the Sr. Director at the direction of the CCO, Americas including Compliance awareness campaigns, Compliance Program Annual Report, development or enhancement of Compliance Department procedures, development or enhancement of business procedures, and support of M&A integration activities. Creates project plans, outlines deliverables, and holds collaborators / stakeholders accountable for target dates. Compiles project results and key outputs to facilitate team and executive discussions.
- Possesses maintains an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of international, federal, and state laws and regulations, as well as industry standards, trends, and developments applicable to the operations of entities, divisions, businesses, groups, and functions supported. Demonstrate and maintain strong knowledge of OCA's Compliance written standards.
- Other responsibilities as directed by the Sr. Director and CCO, Americas as appropriate and consistent with the role of the position.
- Function both independently and as part of a team to deliver quality work product in a timely fashion in a fast-paced environment.
Job Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Arts or Science degree and J.D., LLM, MBA or equivalent relevant knowledge and experience is required.
- A minimum of five to seven years corporate compliance program experience with increasing responsibility required.
- Proficient understanding of fraud and abuse anti-kickback and other health care compliance laws rules and regulations applicable to medical device companies.
- Demonstrated project management skills and capabilities including coordination of requests for proposals.
- Strong analytical reasoning problem solving research and critical thinking skills in areas of heightened regulatory risks necessary.
- Excellent written and verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters and proven ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders including employees at all levels, customers and third parties.
- Maintain and develop relationships with key internal stakeholders, Olympus Management, Business Operations Sales, Marketing, Medical and Scientific Affairs, and Other Business Personnel, Human Resources, Internal Audit, Legal, and QARA.
- Advanced PC skills, including e.g. Microsoft 365, MS Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, SharePoint, Teams, etc.), Smartsheet, Internet, SAP, Concur.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, teamwork/collaboration, problem solving, strong presentation skills, strong organizational ability, results oriented, adapts to and acts as a catalyst for change, and openness to new ways of agile working and lean management techniques.
- Ability to travel domestically and globally up to 20%.
Preferred:
- Medical device pharmaceutical life science or health care compliance program experience preferred.
