Training Lab Lead & Clinical Educator, Professional Education

Olympus Corporation of the Americas (OCA) distributes a wide range of medical and surgical devices used to diagnose and treat diseases. OCA needs to educate health care providers on the safe and effective, on label use of those products through Olympus Continuum courses, workshops and training events.


Olympus Continuum is a comprehensive platform of educational programs and training experiences designed to help healthcare professionals broaden their clinical expertise and enhance their procedural skills. This position is responsible for using clinical and operational expertise to develop and deliver education related to the safe and effective use of Olympus products and to utilize and manage Olympus’ brand new Continuum Training & Education Center to ensure the department utilizes the training lab to its full potential.  50% of the role will be responsible for the day to day operations of Olympus’ new training and education lab located in Westborough, MA and the other 50% of the role will serve as a Clinical Educator in support of Olympus Continuum’s safe and effective product training goals.


Job Duties:


* Manage the use and identification of models and vendors used for training 


* Support courses on site to ensure all discussions remain on label and teachings are consistent with learning objectives and applicable Policies and Procedures. 


* Maintain an environment of continuous improvement by obtaining consistent feedback from faculty, registered attendees, and Olympus colleagues.


* Support Professional Education and Grant workshops as needed.


* Maintain expertise through communication and research, as well as open discussions with other HCPs.


* Work with internal EH&S and building maintenance to ensure all applicable environmental and local laws and standards are met at all times.


* Maintains Lab records, compliance with safety, and biohazard guidelines.


* Develop internal processes and control documents for utilization of the lab by internal departments and any external parties.


* Manage and coordinate supplies and equipment necessary to operate training lab, including shipping/receiving and procurement.


* Become proficient in setup, utilization and repair processes of Olympus and non-Olympus equipment, including but not limited to medical devices and integrated digital OR equipment.


* Support the facilitation of digital/virtual learning solutions as part of the Olympus Continuum training methodology.


* Facilitate and take part in Global Olympus Continuum discussions around training facilities and new and upcoming virtual training solutions.


* Establish short and long term goals for the Olympus Continuum Training & Education Center, including plans for non-Olympus programs, such as science education for grade school children or other efforts that support the local community.


* Monitor and oversee a training center calendar of use, including identification of business plans and needs for other department’s at Olympus who may use the training center.

* Responsible for the overall administration of Olympus’s Training and Education Center including offering outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers, developing and maintaining effective relationships through effective and timely communication and taking initiative and action to respond, resolve and follow up regarding customer service issues with all customers in a timely manner.


* Perform other related duties as assigned.



A Bachelor’s degree, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role is required. Or an Associate’s Degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar position, is required.   


* Minimum of 5 years’ experience in surgical or gastrointestinal field of nursing or 3 years’ experience in a clinical training education role or in a training lab role. The ideal candidate will have a combination of experience working in a clinical environment, experience working in a medical training role, and managing a training lab. 


* Must be flexible to work up to 2 weekends a month on average.


* Must be available to travel about 20% of work time. Most travel is within the US, however international travel may be required. Ability to travel via airplane is required. Ability to operate a vehicle is required.   


* Candidate must be comfortable working in a training environment in which human cadavers, live animals, animal tissue and other synthetic tissues are being used in a humane way to support training needs.



* Clinical expertise in either a surgery or medical field, either as a technician or nurse.


* Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

* Experience working in or managing a training lab preferred.


* Specific experience in medical device product training highly preferred.


* Self-motivated individual with track record of exceeding goals.
