Job Description
The leader for the for Surgical Interventional Systems (SIS) division, will be accountable for driving Innovation, Product and Technology Development Strategies of the SIS division covering a $2.5B portfolio growing at 7-8% CAGR. SIS division comprises of 5 business units – Urology, Respiratory, ENT, Surgical devices and Surgical Endoscopy.
In this capacity the role will oversee the execution of programs in collaboration with the Global Development Centers (DCs) in US, Europe & Japan. The role is accountable for the delivery of Product Quality, Program and Product Cost and timely Delivery (QCD) of the respective product development programs. In addition, this role will be partnering with the SIS Division Heads and respective Business Unit Leaders to ensure development programs and initiatives are aligned with the Global Strategy. The position will help shape the integration and harmonization strategies for technologies and portfolios gained through acquisition.
The position is a member of the CTO Olympus Corporation Executive Team and represents R&D as a cross functional member of the Surgical Interventional Solutions Divisions Executive Committee (ExCom). This role will provide strategic leadership and be responsible for the product development portfolio related to organic and in-organic opportunities.
As a key member of the Executive Committee this individual will play a critical role in shaping the future of the Surgical Interventional Solutions Division by collaborating to identify and evaluate strategic growth opportunities for Olympus.
Job Duties
- Accountable to lead staff of Product Development Sub-Domain Leaders responsible for creating and executing technology and product strategies within the assigned product, technology, and procedural areas.
- Contribute to the creation and execution of a technology vision for Olympus in collaboration with the other R&D Heads to achieve growth goals and maintain leadership positions in key strategic areas.
- Accountable to build and maintain the SIS division’s Product Domain technology strategy and technology roadmap (TRM) and ensure alignment with the Chief Manufacturing and Supply Officer (CMSO) as well as the Chief Quality Officer (CQO).
- Collaborate with the Business Units within the Division to build and maintain the product roadmaps and ensure alignment with TRMs and global initiatives.
- Responsible to align the SIS division’s Product Domain development strategy with the Development Center’s competencies to ensure the most appropriate Centers are utilized to execute development programs.
Job Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or Engineering required. Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 20 years progressive professional leadership experience with proven leadership and business acumen.
- Must include a minimum of 10 years progressive leadership experience in medical device research & development as a member of the senior leadership team.
Preferred:
- Prior executive level experience preferred.
- Proven ability to select, lead, retain and develop a team of senior leaders and to recognize employee issues and act on them with a sense of urgency.
- Leadership skills with a proven track record of hiring, mentoring, and leading a diverse technical team.
- Energetic self-starter with strong executive presence and results oriented.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
- Experience in developing and commercializing regulated devices under Design Control (21 CFR 820), ISO13485, ISO14791, and knowledge of applicable regulations.
- Strong collaborator with a history of delivering new products to market that meet user and business requirements.
- Demonstrated strategic planning capability.
- Strong business and financial acumen · Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), including experience presenting in front of multidisciplinary global and diverse audiences.
- Exhibit an aptitude for project foresight and contingency planning.
- Strong collaboration skills with internal and external partners.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally based on project and business needs.

The anticipated base pay range for this full-time position working at this location is $246,226.00 - $393,961.00 / year, plus potential for annual bonus (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements). Olympus considers a variety of factors when determining actual compensation for this position including: level of experience, working location, and relevant education and certifications.
