Job Description

The Senior Manager, Global Integrated Business Planning (IBP) for the Surgical Devices Business Unit (SDBU) is a member of the Global BU Management Team responsible for the development, execution and management of the Integrated Business Planning process across the full portfolio of products within the SDBU. This will include and regional sales units for the Surgical Devices Business Unit. This role manages the IBP process including Business Forecasting at the Global Business Unit level, and facilitates all necessary communications between the Regional commercial organizations and the various manufacturing entities within Olympus as they relate to the sales and production of products within the SDBU. Their responsibilities will include driving the decision-making process governing the development, monitoring and adjustment of the Fiscal Year Plan (FYP), Multi-Year Plan (MYP) and Long-Range Plan (LRP) for the SDBU. They will have accountability for establishing and executing the monthly cadence of meetings and working sessions in support of the SDBU Portfolio Management Review, Demand Management Review, BU-level Integrated Reconciliation and BU-Level Management Business Review. They will drive engagement up to the Division-level IBP as appropriate and ensure effective communication with the Division-level Supply Management Review. The Senior Manager, Global Integrated Business Planning will be expected to deliver highly independent execution of all tasks and deliverables within their scope of responsibility. This individual will work collaboratively with peers across the globe within Olympus to drive initiatives such as business forecasting, legacy product life cycle related communications and integration of planning inputs & outputs related to new product development programs into the financial forecasts for the SDBU.


The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and self-motivated, with excellent analytic, facilitation, and communication skills (both oral and written). They will also have prior experience with driving an Integrated Business Planning process within a Medical Device company. This role will report into the Executive Director of Strategic Marketing.

Job Duties

* Responsible for establishing & leading BU-level IBP process by driving preparation and analysis of all regional sales data and supply chain/operations metrics in partnership with global finance and supply chain teams.


* Review actual performance versus plan to identify meaningful gaps and develop scenarios for resolution of those gaps for presentation to the BU Leader and escalate as required to Division-level discussions.


* Guide final decision making on cross-functional issues related to the periodic business plan and consider trade-offs across product lines and/or regions with preparation scenarios for review by the BU General Manager and/or Division-level IBP Process as necessary.


* Support change management and education programs to demonstrate the logic behind and value of adopting IBP broadly within Olympus. Measure process related KPIs to ensure adherence and continued efficacy of the IBP process.


* Implement best in class IBP capabilities for the BU including people/organizations, processes, technology, and metrics.


* Conduct knowledge sharing, benchmarking current & future industry trends with peer Medical Device companies and other external research companies to ensure processes are best in class.


* Ensure current practices are well-aligned with the goals of the overall Global IBP process design. Attend and participate in key meetings in the Divisional IBP process facilitated by other leaders and work with meeting owners to ensure sustainability. Define the linkage between the various meetings in the IBP cycle and ensure information connectivity across processes such as Portfolio Approval Board, Strategic Business Planning, and Supply Management Reviews.


* Responsible for leading across regions in order create a demand-driven, profitable supply plans for the Surgical Device BU. Partner with commercial and demand planning teams to formulate business plans and ensure the global Demand Review process delivers an agreed upon, workable volume forecast (mid and long-term).


* Coordinate & influence the development of strategy and tactics to meet short and long-term financial obligations at the direction of the Executive Director of Strategic Marketing.

Job Requirements



* Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s or MBA preferred.


* Minimum 4 years’ experience within a Medical Devices company with specific experience in business planning and management including such experience as corporate strategy, upstream marketing or downstream marketing, Demand Planning & Supply Chain management.


* Minimum 7 years of total business experience is required.


* Travel a minimum of 25 % (including international).


* Ability to work across US, European and Japan time zones on a regular basis.


* Occasional evening and weekend work from home required.

* Experience in medical device demand planning and business forecast modelling.


* Self-motivated with track record of establishing and executing on goals.


* Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills.


* Proven track record of identifying and developing relationships.
