Global Product Manager, Surgical Devices

Job Description

The Global Product Manager is a member of the Global Surgical Devices Business Unit and is responsible for global upstream marketing product development activities and deliverables throughout the stage gates of projects within scope of responsibility. They will also be responsible for the development and execution of the Global Product Launch process and deliverables for their respective products along with post-commercialization support of their assigned product line(s) in partnership with the Regional Marketing teams. Activities are focused on new product development, new product commercialization, and product management throughout the life-cycle. They will participate in cross-functional product development teams and be responsible for defining user requirements and translating requirements into specifications, marketing claims, and clinical indications for use. They will have close collaboration with R&D, RA/QA, Operations, Finance, Supply Chain and Regional Marketing. Forecasting, market modelling, and development of business cases experience is preferred. They will also contribute to the development of the portfolio strategy to ensure sustainable growth and long-term market leadership within their scope of responsibility. This requires a good understanding of clinical usage, market trends, competitive landscapes, and competitive technologies. They will also work closely with Regional Marketing during requirement building and global strategy planning processes and be responsible for the global commercialization efforts of projects to ensure the Regional teams are adequately prepared for successful product launches.


The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and self-motivated with excellent analytic, facilitation, and communication skills (both oral and written). They will have demonstrable experience with the development and launch of new products. They will have experience in the development of product value propositions, marketing messaging, and commercialization plans on a global scale. Optimally  they will have product management experience with minimally invasive and/or open surgical devices within various abdominal surgical areas. The Global Product Manager will report to the Executive Director of Global Product Marketing.

Job Duties

* Ensure that all business requirements and stage gate deliverables are executed in an effective and timely manner under scope of responsibility.


* Owner of voice of customer activities. Develop clear user requirements for future product offerings and collaborate with R&D and/or OEM Partners to translate user needs into requirements.


* Collaborate with Market Intelligence to design and execute primary and secondary research to define user requirements and drive business portfolio decisions.


* Responsible for working effectively and collaborating with internal cross-functional teams as well as regional marketing teams on business deliverables/requirements under scope of responsibility.


* Responsible for the development and validation of new product launch plans inclusive of value proposition, messaging, evidence plans, competitive comparisons, and portfolio positioning in partnership with Regional Marketing to deliver world-class new product launches.


* Responsible for contributing to strategic planning and driving alignment of plans, budgets, timelines, risk assessment, progress, and risk mitigation proposals as necessary according to business and market dynamics.


* Develop and manage relationships with HCP’s who will champion Olympus products and act as advisors in new product development activities.


* Develop strong relationships and early collaboration with Regional Marketing teams to ensure successful product launches.


* Develop in depth knowledge and clinical expertise in areas of responsibility. This includes being actively engaged in product trainings, field visits, industry trade shows, trainings, HCP engagements, etc.


* Contribute to the development of the portfolio and product pipeline by staying close to clinical spaces relevant to their products and understanding the competitive landscape and market dynamics.

Job Requirements



* Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s or MBA preferred.


* Minimum 2 years of experience within Global Marketing or Upstream Marketing.


* Minimum of 5 years of experience between Regional or Downstream Marketing & Global Marketing.


* Minimum 6 years of business experience is required (ideal candidate will have a blend of new product development, marketing product innovation, upstream marketing).


* Travel a minimum of 25 % (including international).


* Occasional evening and weekend work from home required.


* Other projects and duties as necessary and assigned.




* Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.


* Strong clinical competency and analytical skills.


* Experience in designing and executing Voice of Customer research.


* Experience with development & execution of New Product Commercialization/Launch Plans.


* Self-motivated with track record of establishing and executing on goals.


* Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills.


* Proven track record of identifying and developing thought leader relationships.
