Job Description

The Executive Director, Medical Strategy, Global is the strategic partner supporting the VP, Strategy & Portfolio Management. He/she will provide direction and support in consolidating and clarifying the focused strategies of ESD/TSD and new Shape the Future Initiatives, including Organic Development, Business Development, Sustaining and Commercial Strategy formation to drive sustainable and profitable growth. This position will be responsible for executing the Strategic Business Planning process and the collective development and compilation of the TSD short and long-term strategic plan.

 

This role will directly lead or facilitate the exploration of large-scale strategic initiatives (organic & inorganic) that are cross-Business Unit and cross Divisional in nature (e.g., robotics, liquid biopsy). This individual will develop the process to identify new initiatives that will shape Olympus 10-year strategy horizon. Additionally, this individual will work to refine our M&A prioritization strategy framework for existing, adjacent, and white space segments.

 

This role will also act as the conduit to IR functional team supporting the delivery and refinement of our medical strategy narrative to our various stakeholders.

Job Duties

* Recruit, mentor, and develop team members

 

* Accountable for the overall medical strategy process and the recommendations to the Executive Committee on new shape the future initiatives

 

* High level understanding of the overall TSD and ESD market segments, and deep understanding of the key areas of focus for growth

 

* Accountable to work with the VP, Strategy & Portfolio to identify key priority areas of focus and help shape the medical portfolio

 

* Responsible for keeping current on new technologies, trends, economics, policies in the spaces and regions that we play

 

* Collaborate heavily with Division Heads, CSO, IR and Corporate Communications to effectively steer our decision making

 

* Take ownership in the early-stage strategy defining and research initiatives for cross BU or cross Divisional projects/assignments and new shape the future initiatives

 

* Support the development of a portfolio management dashboard to track the portfolio of our investments and simulate changes in the make up of the portfolio

Job Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

*  Bachelor’s degree (Engineering, Finance or Business) and MBA or Master’s degree equivalent required.

 

* A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in medical device consulting, marketing, market intelligence or strategy is required.

 

* A minimum of 5 years of experience in people management/development.

 

* Travel <20% (domestic and international).

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

* Advanced business acumen with mastery of business analytics and business case development.

 

* Ability to successfully lead and influence cross-functional and cross-cultural teams with proven track record managing a service organization.

 

* Ability to synthesize data and reports and to masterfully distill information pivoting the content and output depending on the audience.

 

* Strategic acumen with the ability to help and lead others through analysis and decision-making process with financial and strategic acumen and the ability to distill information relevant to upper management.

 

* Detail oriented and experienced in creating standard work, processes or systems.

 

* Skilled at decisions making and balancing competing priorities for self and others.
