Job Description

Provides strategic leadership for Human Factors/Usability Engineering across the global organization and directs the creation and execution of the Quality System to ensure compliance is maintained with regulatory requirements in alignment with the business strategy of the company. Serves as the Quality Leader for Human Factors, providing applicable training and mentoring to the organization in quality matters.

Job Duties

* Direct and lead multiple HFE projects or phases at any one given time. Serve as the key point of contact for client relationship for HFE focused projects.

 

* Show the ability to direct and be hands on, should the project need it.

 

* Ensure that human-system capabilities and limitations are properly reflected in the system, safety risk and user needs requirements.

 

* Lead the design and execution of formative and summative human factor studies to address the needs of the requirements setting, design testing, verification and validation stages of physical and digital medical devices, industrial equipment, and consumer products.

 

* Author comprehensive human factors engineering protocols and reports (e.g., Usability engineering reports).

 

* Ensure that expert HFE input is provided to product design teams for addressing design requirements, packaging requirements, IFU’s, design validation activities and in support of regulatory submissions.

 

* Plan and facilitate collaborative workshops with client partners to achieve a range of actionable outcomes.

 

* Collaborate with cross-functional leadership to develop and communicate a HFE practice vision and strategy.

 

* Lead the development and documentation of HFE processes, tools, and templates for staff education and training.

 

* Provide expert consultation to multi-disciplinary design teams and client partners to execute HFE projects/studies and assumes responsibility for project execution and quality.

 

* Collaborate with internal and client team members to plan and budget Human Factors projects and activities.

 

* Coordinate with the leadership team to identify and develop new business opportunities. Authors and presents thoughtful project plans, proposals, and presentations by working across multiple areas of practice to craft a point of view, develop a strategy and help close business deals.

 

* Coach HFE team members through mentorship, training, and career track development.

 

* Identify qualified candidates for the HFE practice and actively recruits leading talent to the organization.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

* Master's degree in Human Factors (HF), Industrial Design (ID), Cognitive Psychology, or other Engineering/Life Sciences related subject area.

 

* Minimum of 15 years of experience in HFE both practicing and leading teams in all the disciplines of Human Factors and Product Design and Development.

 

* Will work with global teams, availability will include working across the associated time zones.

 

* International and domestic travel up to 15% of the time.

 

* Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE), Certified Human Factors Professional (CHFP), Certified User Experience Professional (CUXP), Associate Ergonomics Professional (AEP), Associate Human Factors Professional (AHFP), Associate User Experience Professional (AUXP) or Certified Ergonomics Associate (CEA).

 

* Problem Solving, Technical Aptitude, Attention to Detail, Solution Oriented, Effective Verbal and Written Communicator, Quality Engineering Disciplines, Quality Control Disciplines, Quality Systems Disciplines and Strategic Leadership.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

* Good understanding of the principles of Medical Device and healthcare regulations including FDAs Quality System Regulation (QSR), ISO 13485, 14971, EN 60601, Council Directive 93/42/EEC, 62366. HE 75, AAMI.

 

* Experience in design of formative and summative human factor studies to address the needs of the requirements setting, design testing, verification and validation stages of medical device development.

 

* Experience in writing human factors engineering protocols and reports as support for registration documentation (e.g. Usability engineering reports).
