Job Description
As part of Olympus’ Sustaining Engineering team within the Surgical & Interventional Solutions division, this role is responsible for a wide range of efforts to meet our organizational and project objectives. This role will evolve our Sustaining PMO to ensure our project management team develops clear and actionable project execution strategies on our Quality initiatives (e.g., CAPA’s, remediation, etc.) and Lifecycle Management efforts (e.g., post launch design changes, etc.) and other efforts as required.
This position also measures / tracks project execution and support communications within our BU-focused Sustaining Prioritization Team meetings for the Urology, Respiratory, and Surgical business units. To ensure success, this position works collaboratively across our PM teams in the U.S., EU (Hamburg), and Japan (to be built) on the standard tools and processes to be employed as well as ensure competency of our Project Managers.
Job Duties
- Build the SIS Sust. Eng. PMO organization in U.S., Japan, and EU (Germany) to ensure our key initiatives are executed in line with expectations and ensure project reporting is clear, accurate, timely and appropriately detailed for our stakeholders and executives.
- Evolve and/or develop and implement all necessary processes and tools to ensure project management consistency across the SIS division with enhanced resource allocation and overall project / KPI metrics.
- In collaboration with our Sustaining Portfolio Leaders in Urology, Respiratory, and Surgical (who oversee project prioritization, funding, portfolio trade-offs, and chair our BU-facing update meetings) support regular project update forums (Sustaining Prioritization Team meetings).
- Coordinate Divisional Sustaining Governance Board (SGB) board meetings in collaboration with the VP or SIS Sust. Eng., and our Sustaining Portfolio Leaders, to ensure an efficient executive-level review of overall portfolio status, financials, escalations, KPI’s, etc.
- Coach / mentor the members of the Sust. Project Management team to seek consistency in approach, clarity in responsibilities, and excellence in organizational and communication skills.
- Lead annual goal setting and ensure all employee reviews are completed on time and fair with respect to performance and behaviors review vs. expectations.
- Collaborate with Sust. Operations team on financial tracking needs, engagements with the Offshore Development Center, and additional support required.
- Interviewing & onboarding of Sust. Project Managers, who have the competencies and skillsets to meet the demands of their highly dynamic and engaging role.
- Lead various functional / organization efforts in parallel with the responsibilities above.
- Drive change in the pursuit of efficiency, effectiveness and uncompromising on compliance / quality.
- Additional duties as required.
Job Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required. Advanced degrees preferred.
- 10+ years experience in product development and/or sustaining engineering of Medical Devices.
- 10+ years experience in project management required.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels
- Extensive experience in Project / Program Management
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills
- High degree of personal initiative and drive
- Excellent leadership and team management skills
- Ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to support global meetings / discussions (e.g., schedule flexibility to support meetings with teams in Hamburg, DE and Tokyo, JP).
- Travel up to 6x per year (generally to Olympus sites) at one week per engagement
Preferred:
- Project management expertise with a recognized certification in project management desired.
- 8+ years people leadership preferred. Experience in medium to large medtech organizations preferred.

The anticipated base pay range for this full-time position in this location is $166,222.00 - $249,334.00 / year, plus potential for annual bonus (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
