Job Description

This position will establish and lead the U.S. government affairs function for Olympus. This leadership role ensures the company has a strategic and proactive voice in the development of health policy, regulation, and reimbursement in the United States. 

This role represents the company with federal and state policymakers, regulatory agencies, and trade associations to influence legislative and regulatory environments critical to business success. The role requires deep knowledge of the U.S. healthcare policy landscape, the ability to communicate complex information with senior government stakeholders, and a high degree of innovation and leadership to shape a new function from the ground up.

Job Duties

  • Build and lead the U.S. government affairs function, including strategy development, operational infrastructure, and alignment with global priorities.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive advocacy strategy that supports the company’s business, regulatory, and market access objectives at the federal and state level.
  • Serve as the primary representative to policymakers, agencies (FDA, CMS, HHS), legislative staff, and state health authorities.
  • Monitor and analyze proposed legislation and regulation affecting the medical device sector, including product approval, reimbursement, trade, and compliance.
  • Draft and communicate policy positions, comment letters, and briefing materials to internal stakeholders and government audiences.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Regulatory, Legal, Clinical, Commercial, and Market Access teams to ensure cohesive policy engagement.
  • Represent the company in industry associations and coalitions, such as AdvaMed, and coordinate aligned industry efforts.
  • Advise executive leadership on key policy trends, risks, and opportunities affecting strategic planning.
  • Support thought leadership and visibility through public policy events, speaking engagements, and partnership-building.
  • Ensure internal visibility and alignment, educating business units on relevant policy impacts and legislative developments.

    Job Qualifications

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Advanced degree in law, public policy, health policy, political science, or related field preferred.
    • Minimum 15+ years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or regulatory strategy, with 5+ years in healthcare, life sciences, or the medical device sector.
    • Experience directly engaging with FDA, CMS, HHS, and/or relevant congressional committees. 

     

    Preferred:

    • Demonstrated success building or significantly expanding a government affairs program.
    • Deep understanding of U.S. healthcare policy, including device regulation and reimbursement.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including policy writing and executive briefings.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with policy monitoring tools a plus.
    • Other Considerations: 
      • Preferably located in the Washington, D.C. area.
      • If not based in D.C., must be willing and able to travel regularly to Washington, D.C., and occasionally to other domestic locations.
      • Standard business hours with flexibility to accommodate urgent matters and policy development

    The anticipated base pay range for this full-time position working at this location is $195,078.00 - $292,616.00 / year, plus potential for annual bonus (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements). Olympus considers a variety of factors when determining actual compensation for this position including: level of experience, working location, and relevant education and certifications.
