Job Description

The Import Team Lead of North America (“NA”) Trade Compliance (Import/Export) is responsible for leading developing implementing and maintaining OSSA/SSG Trade Compliance programs and policies to ensure compliance with all applicable U.S. Government regulations concerning importing/exporting and Olympus Corporate Policies. The Team Lead will be responsible to ensure all import and export regulations are properly followed, and provide trade compliance support to the Scientific business divisions.The Team Lead of Trade Compliance will provide advice to the company on trade matters, orchestrate global export-import compliance perspective and represent the company with government regulatory agencies. Will interface with but not limited to; Legal, Supply Chain, Compliance, Marketing, Vendors and with external stakeholders involved with global trade.

Job Duties

*  Support Scientific Group Trade Compliance (Import/Export) programs, policies, and groups to ensure compliance to all relevant rules and regulations of the region and Olympus Corporate policies and procedures.

 

*  Coordinate Import declarations and Customs approvals with Customs Broker.

 

* Perform analysis and resolve duty, to include GST, non- compliance issues as well as CBP and Partner Government Agencies (PGA). Ensure proper recordkeeping is maintained.

 

*  Monitor export and import transactions, collecting information on needed training and submitting corrections as documented in SOPs and Work Instructions, including PSCs and Protests.

 

* Train and troubleshoot EEI filing with supply chain personnel and highlight any concerns to management, ensure proper records are kept in compliance with regulations and Olympus’ policies.

 

*  Oversee special programs such as FTA, duty drawback program and other cost saving initiatives including qualification and costs savings tracking and metrics.

 

*  Partner with our purchasing team to ensure documentation and required data accompanying imported merchandise allows for compliant customs clearance and accurate reporting to CBSA and CBP.

 

*  Work with manufacturing division to ensure proper US ECCN, Canadian ECL, HTS, and HTSCA classifications as well as country of origin determination are accurate. Ensure our databases are updated with the proper information.

 

*  Act as Scientific Business point of contact for US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Food and Administration when addressing matters of trade compliance.

 

*  Provide guidance and assistance to global regional business units to support compliant policies and activities in relation to US trade policies and regulations, especially as it pertains to products manufactured by OSSA.

 

*  Monitor and manage customs brokers’ performance to ensure compliance with all applicable rules and import regulations, to include but not limited to periodic reviews and audits of broker activities, import filings, duty drawback filings, HTS classifications, Special Trade Programs, certifications and preferential filing statuses, Reconciliation, and Related Party identification, and provide management with updates on a regular cadence.

 

*  Assist in training on Olympus policies and procedures, to include Import/Export Regulatory requirements.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

*  Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Relevant experience may be considered as substitution for degree.

 

*  Licensed Customs Broker.

 

*  Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Trade Compliance in-house or Customs brokerage, preferably within a manufacturing industry.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

*  Knowledge of Canadian regulation including CBSA highly preferred.

 

*  Customs Licensed Broker a plus or willingness to obtain Customs License Broker certification.

 

*  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

*  Must be a highly organized, self-managed individual who works independently with minimum supervision and the ability to work in fast paced environment.

 

*  Strong technical aptitude to be able to process and analyze and comprehend technical data, drawings, and discussion.

 

*  Skilled in Microsoft office, especially excel. Advanced Knowledge of CBP’s Automated Commercial Environment (“ACE”).

 

*  Electronic Export Information (EEI) filing.

 

*  Knowledge of U.S. Trade Regulations including regulations applicable to BIS, OFAC, DDTC, CBP, U.S. Census.

 

*  Knowledge of FDA requirements related to importing products.

 

*  Familiarity with restricted party screening.
