Job Description

The Buyer II is responsible for the negotiating and purchasing of materials equipment and services from suppliers. They plan schedules and monitors the movement of materials in support of production schedules and other corporate demands. The Buyer II evaluates supplier quotations and awards contracts and/or purchase orders. They rely on experience and judgment to plan for and accomplish tasks.

Job Duties

 * Purchases goods and services necessary to ensure an adequate supply of material to support company objectives.


* Ensures the effective use of company funds in the procurement of goods and services.


* Exercises proper judgment in securing the best possible value for funds expended.


* Maintains a professional corporate image by conducting purchasing activities with honesty integrity and fairness.


* Manages changing delivery schedules and performs expediting functions in order to support production requirements.


* Publishes a daily production material shortage report.


* Clearly communicates delivery dates and/or supplier issues affecting production.


* Possesses the skills necessary to provide sourcing support to cross-functional teams including Engineering Sales Operations etc.


* Analyzes purchase requisitions reviews for data integrity and creates corresponding purchase orders. Maintains various purchasing files per ISM procedures.


* Represents Supply Chain at MRB meetings.


* Communicates quality issues to suppliers and processes dispositions that require a return to supplier (VRA) transaction in the business system.


* Executes dispositions resulting from ECO actions.


* Provide input as requested to facilitate ECO implementations with minimal disruption to sources of supply.

Job Requirements



* Bachelor's Degree preferred, or equivalent experience required.


* Minimum of 3 years prior experience as a Buyer in a manufacturing setting.


* Position may require limited travel to perform supplier evaluations audits and negotiations.




* Experience using enterprise resource planning systems including material requirements planning as well as reorder points and KanBan systems preferably within and ISO-9000 environment.


* Requires verbal quantitative and interpersonal skills.


* Must have the ability to deal with complex problems and communicate effectively at the management level with both internal and external customers.
