Job Description

Members of our engineering team are responsible for designing innovative medical devices, products and tools to support the Company’s current product lines, as well as new products in the development pipeline. The Design Engineer is responsible for performing and/or leading all aspects of product development including technical planning, feasibility studies, device development, verification and validation. The primary responsibilities of the position are defining product specifications, design inputs, product design, verification testing and supporting design validation studies. Other activities include evaluating alternatives with consideration for cost, technical risk, reliability and User Needs. They must fully understand medical device design control requirements and be able to effectively manage a product development project and work effectively in a cross functional team. 

Job Duties

* Translates customer needs into product requirements and design specifications.


* Conducts medical product research, requirements development, design development, engineering analysis, and creation of medical device documentation.


* Creation of medical device documentation includes engineering product specifications, component specifications, 3D part/assembly models, 2D design detail drawings, engineering characterization reports, assembly procedures, flowcharts, test plans, and test reports.


* Understand anatomy, clinical use cases and user interface requirements to drive design decisions.


* Prepares for and conducts engineering design reviews.


* Creates risk management documentation such as design failure modes and effects analysis (DFMEA).


* Designs, procures, and fabricates tools/jigs/fixtures.


* Works cooperatively with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing on complex projects to ensure project success.


* Collaborates with vendors and procurement team to specify, purchase and oversee fabrication of prototypes and pilot runs.


* May train and/or provide work direction to technicians.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering.


* Minimum of 2 years of work experience primarily in medical device or related field.


* Travel to other Company facilities, vendors, hospitals, and animal lab settings may be required.


* Ability to work overtime is required.


Strong mechanical engineering skills, specifically with machined and injection molded components, design for manufacturability and planning.


* SolidWorks or Pro Engineer Creo design experience.


* IEC 60601 EMC and Safety Testing experience preferred.


* Sensor and electronics integration experience preferred.


* Nitinol experience preferred.


* Catheter experience preferred.


* Class II or Class III Medical Device product development experience preferred.


* Experience with Medical Device quality systems.


* Excellent organizational, communication and collaboration skills.


* Hard working, intelligent, technical acumen, self-motivated, ability to multitask.


* Operate with little or no supervision.


* Strong problem-solving skills.


* Strong communication skills.


* Other projects and duties as necessary and assigned.


* This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus.
