Job Description

The Senior R&D Technician will work with input from engineering staff to build prototypes, design test fixtures, conduct testing of medical devices, create protocols, train others in test methods, and create technical memos and draft reports. They will work with engineering staff to analyze test results, including interpreting the results in reports.They will also manage lab infrastructure which may include calibration, safety, maintenance of equipment, cleaning services and be responsible for the andling and disposal of hazardous/biological waste.

Job Duties

* Troubleshooting problems on existing product lines.

 

* Designing, building, testing, and/or evaluating test fixtures to specification.


* Executing test methods and produce test reports or technical memos.

 

* Assembling component parts according to specifications (Optical, Mechanical & Electrical)

 

* Precision assembly of small parts under microscope.

 

* Testing and rework of products for correct functioning.

 

* Performing product testing and generating reports.

 

* Engaging in design reviews and providing feedback for improvements.

 

* Collaborating with other functional groups Design Assurance, Marketing, etc..

 

* Supporting procurement of lab and project materials and supplies.

 

* Maintain responsibilty for managing a department purchasing card for supporting procurement of lab supplies and department expenses.

 

* Conduct testing of devices on animal tissue.

 

* Participate in animal studies.

 

* Support department with administrative tasks such as Agile, Oracle, and procurement requisitions.

 

* Create solid models for test fixtures, design fixtures, modify existing designs, and work with the machine shop or 3D printer to fabricate designs.

 

* Maintain training in the use of model shop equipment to support inhouse prototyping efforts.

 

* Plan and facilitate procurement of materials and tools necessary for test or build activities.

 

* Perform other related duties as directed or as self-initiated based on perceived need.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

* Associates Degree in Technology or Engineering or equivalent work experience.

 

* Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

* Medical device experience is preferred.

 

* Strong technical writing skills.

 

* Good manual dexterity and the ability to operate model shop equipment.

* Ability to research, design and/or recommend electromechanical measurement/test equipment and prototype tool/fixtures.

 

* Ability to create, read and properly interpret engineering drawings and take technical instruction from co-workers, supervisors and other professional personnel.

 

* Written and verbal communication skills must be sufficient to read and understand documentation and communicate with, and take technical instruction from coworkers, supervisors and other professional personnel.

 

* Proficiency using Microsoft Office software suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
