Job Description

The Senior Manufacturing Engineering Manager has responsibility for the engineering group; leading new product development initiatives and/or legacy production management activities.  The Senior Manufacturing Engineering Manager develops and improves processes as required by the business, meeting project and product cost and delivery targets.  The Senior Manufacturing Engineering Manager maintains responsibility for the proactive development and introduction of manufacturing engineering practices in accordance with regulatory requirements and the business strategy of the Company as well as provides leadership to assigned staff towards achieving department, site & corporate objectives.

Job Duties

* Direct supervisory responsibility for Manager, Engineers, Technicians and contract staff.

 

* Establishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans and performance requirements.
 

* Conduct regular department and one-on-one meetings with staff to resolve issues, maintain engagement/focus, and share updates on project and activities.
 

* Develop skill sets of assigned staff to meet functional objectives, OSTA business objectives and employees’ professional goals.

 

* Coordinate with leadership colleagues across various functions to foresee/understand critical project activities and to enable them to manage team resources and tasks to avoid critical path slippage.
 

* Drive TPS/Lean Manufacturing efforts on new and legacy product lines.
 

* Update senior management on operational performance of the manufacturing processes developed as part of a new product team.
 

* Maintain responsibility for the development and validation of capable production processes that meet operational objectives.
 

* Drive DFM discussions with R&D and Production Technology on all new products.

 

* Evaluate all available internal and external technologies including manufacturing equipment, and Materials.
 

* Works with other engineering managers and cross-functionally to standardize, leverage and implement engineering tools and establish best-demonstrated practices
 

* Develop and control the validation and verification strategy for legacy products as new equipment is acquired or as process improvements are implemented.
 

* Ensure effective Engineering input to MRB activity.
 

* Member of Site Leadership Team responsible for overall budget and Site performance.
 

* Work with cross site engineering leadership in developing and standardizing best engineering tools and practices
 

* Perform all other duties as directed.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

* Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technology discipline

 

* Minimum 10 years professional experience in the medical devices field.

 

* Minimum 8 years of functional management in the medical field.

 

* Minimum 10 years of manufacturing related experience (DFM, GD&T, process development, equipment spec, assembly, automation, molding, etc.)

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

* Demonstrated strong business acumen

 

* Graduate degree preferred, (MBA, MSA, EMBA, etc.)

 

* Certified Six Sigma Black Belt preferred

 

* Demonstrated success in leadership of people.

 

* Good team leader and manager, wide technical knowledge base, with above average problem analysis skills .

 

* Ability to think both logically and creatively and possess sound reporting abilities

 

* Working knowledge of core engineering tools.  For example:  6-sigma, FMEA, Risk Analysis, Process Mapping, Standard Work Instructions, Lean Manufacturing, Manufacturing Work Instruction Creation, DOE methods, DFM, Process Characterization, Verification & Validation activities 

 

* Demonstrated project management techniques and approaches

 

* Efficient Knowledge of basic software, including MS Office, Visio and Solidworks
