Job Description

This critical position will be responsible for providing leadership for medical safety issues across the therapeutic solutions and endo-surgical businesses of Olympus and working in collaboration with the Chief Medical Safety Officer and Medical Safety Officer, Japan.  The Director of Medical Safety will partner with the Chief Medical Safety Officer to help build the global Medical Safety Office to ensure proactive medical safety surveillance activities are executed.The incumbent will report directly to the Chief Medical Safety Officer and will collaborate with the global Medical Safety Officer, CMO, Quality, Regulatory, R&D, Clinical, and Medical Affairs and business leaders to provide leadership on Medical Safety issues and processes

Job Duties

* Provide medical expertise and objective safety oversight to ensure patient safety throughout the product lifecycle across Japan Olympus, including product development processes, risk management, clinical trials, post-market safety surveillance, and field actions

 

* Responsible for strategic decision making across Olympus regarding all issues and processes pertaining to Medical Safety

 

* Serve as the Medical Safety representative at key business unit level management review meetings, staff meetings, and global meetings

 

* Collaborate with Chief Medical Safety Officer, other medical safety leaders within MSA to share best practices and ensure consistent patient safety oversight across the region

 

* Review and provide input and oversight for all safety risk/benefit assessments and field action assessments pertaining to the business

 

* Provide medical review and assessment of critical safety issues impacting the business and recommend action, as needed

 

* Serve as a resource and collaborate with the Medical Safety Specialists to provide input on difficult or unclear cases

 

* Interact with management concerning significant patient safety issues

 

* Encourage ethical decision-making, innovative and strategic thinking on medical safety; develops processes and supporting key performance indicators to continuously improve business effectiveness and simplification; promotes and manages change to enhance organizational capabilities

 

* Work within and actively promote Olympus’ Core mission, corporate strategies, policies, procedures and Code of Conduct

Job Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

* Medical Degree (“MD” or “DO” or equivalent)

 

* Successful completion of post-graduate training with active board certification in specialty of endoscopy or related therapeutic areas with direct patient care  

 

* Preferred advanced degree such as MHA, MPH

 

* Minimum 3 or more years of direct patient care experience beyond residency

 

* Minimum 8 or more years of relevant clinical experience and/or safety and/or device industry experience

 

* Demonstrated leadership in a clinical setting or has previously led a team of clinical or patient care professionals

 

* Domestic and international travel 20%, including weekend and evening travel as needed
