Job Description

The Executive Director of Market Intelligence and Customer Insights, Global is the strategic partner for the Olympus Medical Business supporting stakeholders in Therapeutic Solution Division (TSD) and Endoscopic Solution Division (ESD) as well as our Regional Sales Business leaders in the quest to attain and deliver accurate and timely market competitive content landscape and insights. Serves as principal analytics champion within the organization. They will have a diverse team across the globe that lead Market Intelligence and Customer Insight professionals supporting Corporate, Divisional, Business Unit and regional needs across the full continuum of the business. 

The candidate reports directly to the Vice President of Strategy and Portfolio Management for the Medical business and will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic vision and direction on improved analytics, research, content management and reporting capabilities globally with a goal of driving efficiency while fully aligned to the business needs and to support the mission of enabling customer, market and data driven decisions.  

Job Duties

* Foster a collaborative and customer focused culture within your global team, engaging the growing workforce through consistent and targeted internal communications initiatives.


* Responsible for recruitment, professional & skill set development and retention of talent for Market Intelligence and Customer Insights across all regions


* Accountable for on-time delivery of high quality & secure content across Olympus


* Refine the MI and CI Group’s brand positioning and messaging to ensure key capabilities are marketed effectively to deliver awareness and the right “pull” demand in alignment to the business objectives to make market and data driven decision


* Accountable for leading the effort together with the MI leaders and stakeholders in each business to develop the data management and delivery short and long term strategy and roadmap 


* Together with IT and key stakeholders drive the selection of global system platforms for content management, including storage, analytics and delivery


* Accountable for approval and effective global and regional implementation of the tools and systems selected.


* Accountable for refinement and global scaling of Customer Insights capabilities and the multi-year plan for evolution of training and skill sets within CI/MI as well as key functions Global Marketing and R&D


* Together with Global Marketing develop skills, process, framework and training for the integration of pricing studies as appropriate to develop the pricing corridors for our key product categories


* Window person for Corporate Strategy, Divisional Medical Strategy Team and Investors Relations team coordinating efforts to plan and execute internal and external facing materials containing market data & analytics

* Coordinate and collaborate with MI leaders, Divisional Strategy leads and regional leaders to develop the short and mid-term data acquisition, market research and data gap multi-year plan and budget


* Accountable for developing, proposing and tracking short and long term overall global departmental resource & capabilities multi-year plans working with regional/global leaders & HR to approve, budget  & implement


* Accountable for working with procurement for the negotiations with primary market, consulting and data acquisition globally to deliver savings


* High level understanding of the overall Olympus Medical markets as well as key areas of focus and strategic direction for both ESD and TSD


* Responsible for keeping current on new technologies, market research and analytics industry trends. Actively participate and represent Olympus in key industry global and regional opportunities


* Implementation in ESD and continuous improvement and refining of the Upfront MI & CI Business Review Deliverables to ensure they are and effective and value added exercise for the organization


* Collaborate with counterpart in the ESD (Endoscopic Solutions Division) to ensure consistency of roles and responsibilities, process, tools and approach


* As required represent CI/MI in early stage strategy defining and research initiatives for cross Divisional or Corporate wide projects/assignments

Job Requirements



* Bachelor’s degree required and MBA or Master’s degree equivalent preferred


* A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in market intelligence, business analytics required (minimum of 3 years with Medical Devices/Pharma or Healthcare expertise)


* Minimum of 5 years of experience in people management/development


* Travel <20% (domestic and international)




* Demonstrated expertise in working with and advising senior leaders


* Excellent presentation, public speaking and written communication skills


* Ability to synthesize data and reports and to masterfully distill information pivoting the content and output depending on the audience


* Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with data management and communications technologies


* Advanced business acumen with mastery of business analytics, business case development, and P&L forecasting


* Ability to successfully lead and influence cross-functional and cross-cultural teams


* Exceptional organization skills and ability to respond quickly and accurately to requests and skillfully manage prioritization of competing priorities for the department
