Job Description

This position is part of Global Business Strategy & Operations and will be responsible for serving as a key operational business system contact for multiple assigned clinical and non-clinical system(s).The individual will collaborate with cross functional teams including internal/external business stakeholders within Global Medical & Scientific Affairs (MSA), across ESD/TSD, and within the broader Olympus organization as appropriate. The Business Application Manager will manage and oversee vendors to ensure systems and applications effectively support the business processes and align with company and regulatory requirements in support of data quality and overall Olympus and MSA system excellence strategies. 

Job Duties

* Serve as Business lead/business owner for MSA systems and applications


* Builds and maintains functional knowledge for assigned applications and associated business processes


* Establishes relationships with business stakeholders (internal and external) to understand the strategic direction and priorities for the organization and supports the plans for alignment of system capabilities


* Continuously prioritize Systems Excellence work, evaluate system landscape on an ongoing basis, propose system strategies, and coordinate roadmap and budgeting processes


* Evaluates innovative technology solutions for delivery of MSA priorities


* Partners with Business Process Owners, Key Business Stakeholders


* Help ensure systems and applications align with processes, drive value, and that training, and user support are fit for purpose


* Help ensure alignment of internal and external systems and processes


* Review which global system changes may affect local MSA business rules and determine proper method to ensure adoption


* Maintain and publish system-specific supporting documentation and information


* Support cross-domain technology and process improvement initiatives


* Promote and engage in continuous improvement by participating in developing and documenting business processes and measuring results


* Plans, manages & facilitates delivery of system related communications to key stakeholders via regular reports


* Collaboration with study teams, internal and external users to ensure understanding and awareness of processes and procedures surrounding the setup and use of assigned systems


* Supports the management of system change requests in partnership with Informatics


* Coordinate assessment of impact on business process, training, reporting, & system landscape


* Supports the determination of business priorities and provides recommendations to the business on options, risks and costs versus benefits of various solutions


* Help ensure maintenance and transparency of information on the assessment, approval/rejection, and implementation status of change management activities


* May assume the UAT Business Lead role for system releases and enhancements


* Participate in validating, testing, and coordinating updating of related system documentation


* Ensure relevant test scenarios are provided for the testing team


* Review test plans to ensure traceability to end user requirements

Job Requirements



* Bachelor’s degree preferably in business administration, health policy, life sciences or healthcare discipline or a combination of a bachelor’s degree and job-related experience


* Minimum of 7 years of job-related experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience


* Domestic and international travel 20%, including weekend and evening travel as needed


* Experience working in a global cross-functional team (functional/matrix) environment and knowledge and/or experience working with groups with varied cultural backgrounds and learning styles is required




* This position will require constant collaborative interactions with co-workers across functional groups and departments. Strong interpersonal skills, outstanding verbal and written communication skills are essential. Experience working in a global cross-functional team (functional/matrix) environment

* Project management, clinical operations and/or clinical systems management experience along the software development lifecycle, including requirements/specifications development and user acceptance testing for computer systems are preferred

* Demonstrated expertise working effectively in a shared software development environment, including version control, bug tracking, release management and code review

* Track record of successful partnership & collaboration with key stakeholders and business partners

* Strong interpersonal skills, outstanding verbal and written communication skills are essential

* Experience of influencing and negotiating at management level to achieve delivery
