Job Description

The Assistant General Counsel is responsible for advising and liaising with senior executives with respect to healthcare fraud and abuse compliance and transactional matters. Other responsibilities include general legal counsel for the Surgical business; serving as a member of business executive committees; supervising sales program and template development; supporting litigation matters and outside counsel engagements; and maintaining Olympus' overall risk profile and ethical standards.

Job Duties

In a typical day, you will:


* Serve as principal legal advisor for Olympus' US Surgical business providing advice on a broad range of topics including commercial transactions healthcare fraud and abuse compliance and regulatory and quality issues.


* Provide guidance on risks and best practices related to Anti- Kickback Statute False Claims Act and Food Drug and Cosmetic Act.


*Negotiate and draft a variety of commercial transactions.


*Provide support in establishing and documenting sales programs and promotions.


*Maintain active communication with Olympus' Deputy General Counsel about legal risks.


*Adapt implement and deliver training on legal department policies and procedures.


*Contribute to business group and legal department development of policies and standards.


*Manage outside counsel engagements including budgets and fees.


*Proactively identify legal risks affecting Olympus and collaborate with senior management to mitigate risks.


*Follow and advise on major developments in laws and regulations.


*Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements


* Member of US state bar in good standing required.


* 7 - 10 years of legal experience.


* Prior practice with multinational law firm and relevant in-house experience preferred.


* Experience in highly-regulated industry required; medical device pharmaceutical or life sciences experience preferred.


* Expertise in Anti-Kickback Statute Food Drug and Cosmetic Act and other laws and regulations impacting US healthcare industry.


* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and maintaining a positive professional image.
