Job Description

This position is responsible for providing Sterilization and Microbiological expertise to the Olympus Surgical Technologies America group and ensuring that the Operational activities in regard to cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization are in compliance with internal and external requirements and regulations. This includes performing sterilization requalification, change assessments, environmental monitoring, cleaning validations, product adoptions, and root cause analysis for manufacturing sites globally.

Job Duties

  • Author Cleaning, Disinfection, and Sterilization validations and/or product adoptions for new or existing products.
  • Support ongoing manufacturing and product changes related to sterility assurance.
  • Coordinate sterilization, environmental or microbiological activities with external laboratories and sterilization vendors.
  • Ensure compliance to internal and external regulatory requirements for sterility assurance including annual sterilization reviews, environmental monitoring and controls, bioburden testing, sterilant residual testing, EO requalification and dose audits.
  • Assist QA in the investigation of Cleaning and/or Sterilization related issues or complaints and recommend/implement corrections/corrective actions as appropriate.
  • Participate in audits of laboratories conducting sterilization, environmental and microbiological services to ensure laboratories provide reliable results and meet regulatory and internal expectations.

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering required. Bachelor’s degree in biology or microbiology is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in Cleaning, Disinfection, and Sterilization within an FDA regulated medical device experience. 
  • Knowledge of hospital infection control practices, including cleaning, high level disinfection and sterilization procedures.
  • Good communication skills and writing skills.
  • Competent with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with pertinent FDA, EUMDR, AAMI, OSHA and ASTM regulations and guidelines.
  • Travel: < 10% domestic/international
