Job Description

A Senior Design Manager is a dynamic leader focused on strategic visions, growing talent, and design execution. A Senior Design Manager has management experience with managing teams of up to 8 people (some of which may be / have been managers). A Senior Design Manager is skilled in the process of recruiting and hiring employees.
As a Senior Design Manager in the Digital Health unit, you will join our Design and UXR team to help manage, coach, and lead a talented group of designers to drive progress and ensure our products and features are valuable, easy to use, and of the highest level of craft and execution. In this role, you will work together with your counterparts in the UX research, product management, engineering, marketing, and other disciplines to help define and execute the strategy, operations, and communications that guide the team to build innovative solutions that shape the future of Olympus software products. You will be expected to utilize your full range of skills including people management, product strategy, product design, interaction design, and visual design.

Job Duties

  • Coach, manage, mentor, and grow a top-tier team of product designers who consistently deliver on projects and are well-balanced across a range of design skills and core values.
  • Lead a team in creating, testing, and refining divergent concepts while helping them align with cross-functional stakeholders and build iteratively towards a product vision
  • Providing creative/art direction to continue to raise the bar of visual design across our product ecosystem.
  • Oversee the user experience and design of features from concept to launch,
  • Work strategically as a partner with product managers, engineering managers, and design leadership to drive progress and uphold a level of quality, innovation, and craft.
  • Lead workshops, brainstorming sessions, and other design thinking exercises across a cross-functional team.
  • Ensures design cohesiveness and alignment with our design system.
  • Advocate for design by sharing the work of your team presenting cross-functionally. Be able to precisely articulate design rationale and goals.
  • Provide career/professional guidance, coaching, and thought leadership to the team you manage.
  • Help shape the culture of a growing design team.
  • Work with senior leadership to put together budgets, headcount estimates, and advocate for the needs ot the team.
  • Be a proactive member of recruiting and hiring across cross-functional teams.

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in User Experience, Design, or related field required.
  • College degree in design, user experience, HCI, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience working in UX/product design field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of design management experience with direct reports under your guidance.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience working collaboratively with product, engineering, design, and user research teams.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience designing user-centered applications across multiple platforms (Web, Mobile, Embedded, etc).
  • Minimum of 10 years working as part of a product team in an agile environment.

 

Preferred:

 

  • Experience growing designers and successful mentoring and coaching them as they progress in their career journey.
  • Experience with delivering both 0-1 products and improving more mature solutions..
  • Experience leading product direction and strategic thinking with the experience developing product goals, identifying opportunities, and making decisions based on the impact/value they will deliver.
  • Medical technology or healthcare experience preferred.
  • Experience with Human Factors Engineering preferred.
  • Experience with Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) preferred.

The anticipated base pay range for this full-time position working at this location is $128,490.00 - $179,886.00 / year, plus potential for annual bonus (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements). Olympus considers a variety of factors when determining actual compensation for this position including: level of experience, working location, and relevant education and certifications.
