The Principal Platform Engineer is a key member of the Digital Engineering team. The role concentrates on accelerating time-to-value for the business by fostering improved developer experiences and self-service capabilities within a framework that is both secure and governed. This role will define and drive the implementation of Cloud strategy and adoption, feeding into wider digital unit strategic decision making and providing leadership to different stakeholders, and technical teams as needed.

Job Duties

Cloud Strategy, governance & Implementation
⦁    Responsible for Olympus Cloud provisioning and supporting strategies.
⦁    Ability to adopt a product-based mindset, focusing on improving the developer experience and facilitating self-service within a well-governed framework.
⦁    Empower developers to become self-reliant through the provision of starter kits and IDE plugins, facilitating their day-to-day tasks.
⦁    Distill common patterns and best practices into reusable building blocks enhancing efficiency and coherence across projects.
⦁    Offer preemptive advice and feedback on potential issues and security risks, ensuring a proactive approach to problem-solving.
⦁    Collaborates with Olympus DU leadership to determine appropriate strategies, architectures, implementation approaches, and strategies across cloud infrastructure.
⦁    Manages the relationships and contracts with key stakeholders and vendors.
⦁    Provides technical guidance to cloud engineers around Olympus.
⦁    Drive the business objectives of the digital unit by ensuring best of class cloud infrastructure and continuously improving its processes and technology whilst ensuring compliance and security.
⦁    Provide oversight, strategic thought leadership, and innovative solutions towards maturing a cloud strategy, architecture, and service capabilities.
⦁    Ensure and align the cloud adoption plan to the needs of Olympus Digital Unit.
⦁    Work with stakeholders and other DU teams to align cloud strategy with business objectives and goals.
⦁    Ensure and maintain a healthy relationship within and outside the DU team including stakeholders, peers, cloud vendors, etc.

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • BS/BA degree, ideally in computer science, engineering, or a comparable background.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in working with different infrastructure strategies and implementations.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience working with Microsoft Azure technologies.
  • Other Considerations (travel/hours availability, etc.):Traveling: 10%.

 

Preferred:

  • Ability to design and implement the infrastructure for applications, considering reliability, disaster recovery, and scalability.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, and tools for continuous integration and deployment. Ability to manage and automate Azure resources effectively.
  • A solid understanding of virtual network configurations, IP management, DNS, load balancing, and implementing security measures such as SSL encryption, firewalls, intrusion detection, and prevention systems​.
  • Creating and configuring Azure resources, implementing Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), and ensuring the performance, security, and availability of services​.
  • Proficiency in architecting Microsoft Azure infrastructure and topologies using Landing Zone and Cloud scale analytics.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation of deployment, configuration, and management tasks.
  • Container management and orchestration experience with Kubernetes.
  • Certification in Microsoft Azure Infrastructure Solutions is a plus.

The anticipated base pay range for this full-time position working at this location is $125,634.00 - $175,888.00 / year, plus potential for annual bonus (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements). Olympus considers a variety of factors when determining actual compensation for this position including: level of experience, working location, and relevant education and certifications.
