Job Description

The Medical Safety Director (MSD) is integral to the day-to-day functioning and developmental success of the global medical safety organization. In this vital role the MSD will facilitate, develop, lead, and execute upon an encompassing range of medical safety processes across Olympus. As a leader, the MSD will shape both the science and practice of all professional medical safety activities related to the detection, assessment, understanding of product risks and their effective mitigations to protect patients worldwide. The MSD will not only come to be regarded as both an internal and external expert focused on both individual and team successes but must demonstrate programmatic development expertise to independently lead an entire division of the Global Medical Safety Organization. Additionally, the MSD with be expected to be talented at imparting domain knowledge, executing change management initiatives, and be a skilled and nuanced people leader with advanced management proficiencies. This role requires an executive presence in Medical Safety on an international level to deliver differentiated organizational successes.

 

The MSD will report directly to the Chief Medical-Safety Officer and will work closely with the global medical safety leadership team. The successful candidate will be adept at cultivating strong collaborative relationships across Infection Prevention & Control, Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, Clinical Research, HEMA, Professional Affairs, Research & Development, Legal, as well as Health Care Compliance. The MSD will be required to effectively deliver medical knowledge and clinical insights across the product lifecycle for all Olympus therapeutic areas.

Job Duties

* Serve as a medical safety expert advisor to assess, understand, product risk and advise on mitigation strategies.

 

* Search, review, trend, understand, and interpret adverse event data, literature, and other safety-relevant data for the purpose of signal detection.

 

* Demonstrate knowledge and experience working with:

 

* Various regulations (HIPPA, EU-MDR, FDA CFR 803)

* Various standards (GCP, ISO 13485, ISO 14971)

* Regulatory filings (FDA IDE, 510K, EU-MDR CERs, SSCP, PMCFs, PSURs)

* Corrective Actions – Preventative Actions (CAPAs)

* Health Hazard Assessment & Field Corrective Actions

* Resolving product non-conformances

* IMDRF dictionary terms and proficiency in adverse event coding and reporting

* Post market surveillance, escalations, and mandatory safety reporting requirements

* Endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the following therapeutic areas: Gastroenterology, Pulmonary, ENT, General Surgery, Neurological Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Urology, Obstetrics/Genecology, Infectious Disease, Infection Prevention and Control.

 

* Development and maintain Medical Safety standard operating procedures, guidance, work instructions, training, and competencies.

 

* Strong project management and leadership skills, including the demonstrated ability to lead multi- departmental, cross functional teams and resolve quality-related issues in a timely and effective manner.

 

* Demonstrate experience staying engaged with worldwide clinical practice guidelines, safety requirements, and procedures of global notified bodies and competent authorities

Job Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

* Degreed Health Care Professional with Bachelor's degree, masters (MA/MS) or doctorate degree (DNP, PhD, MD, or equivalent) a plus.

 

* Experienced Health Care Professional – Direct patient care experience required (Hospital, Medical, or Clinical Practice): 3 years or equivalent.

 

* Either one or both of the following specific Medical Safety experiences are required: 1. Medical Safety (Medical Device preferred to Pharma) experience: 4-6 years 2. Risk Management (Medical Device Quality Assurance) experience: 4-6 years.

 

* Extended periods of time doing computer-based work.

 

* Extended hours to accommodate international/intercontinental global time schedules.

 

* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be independently mobile.

 

* The employee is also required to interact with a computer and communicate with peers and co-workers.

 

* Travel up to 20-25% maybe required.
