Job Description

The Manager of Global Market Intelligence maintains resonsibility for processing information on markets and competitors and providing analysis, insights and recommendations to internal stakeholders in Therapeutic Solutions Division (TSD) and/or Endoscopic Solutions Division (ESD) in Olympus.

This position will perform and provide all Market Intelligence deliverablesas a part of the Strategic Business Planning  Process and all phases of product lifecycle for the assigned Business Unit with cross-functional collaboration with key stakeholders.

He/she will support the assigned Business Unit globally. This position will report to the Director, Global Market Intelligence, in the global organization and act as a regional and global specialty subject matter expert and the key business partner to the Busniess Unit.

Job Duties

* Become a regional and global subject matter expert on market and competitive trends, data and information/data tools for assigned business unit. Provide recommendations to internal stakeholders on appropriate research methodology and sources.


* Manage and conduct all phases of qualitative and quantitative primary market research projects (from writing RFP and vendor selection to final presentation) to ensure that the projects accomplish research objectives within the appropriate timeline/budget.  


* Build market models by product category and by county/region by data collection, method determination, building assumptions and analysis and the model validation with Global Marketing and Regional Marketing.


* Analyze, interpret and provide conclusions and summaries on multiple secondary market data and industry reports.


* Perform and provide all MI deliverables (i.e., primary market research, market landscape and assessment, competitive analysis, market modelling and forecasting, etc.). Closely work with the MI global team and assigned BU including BU leaders/strategist, Global Marketing and Regional Marketing.


* Support assigned BU for the Strategic Business Planning (SBP) and each stage exit throughout the product development life cycle by providing research and analysis across all regions as well as the long range roadmap and budget/resource requirements to complete the overall market models and market/competitor insights.


* Partner with internal stakeholders to build and strengthen market understanding and develop short and long term recommendations on how the gaps of data and information should be prioritized and approached.


* Regularly monitor, collect and analyze market and competitor intelligence from a wide range of internal and external sources. 


* Identify market trends and opportunities and identify competitive advantages/threats. Develop in-depth market assessments.


* Compile and publish intelligence deliverables on a regular basis (i.e., competitor profile/financials, specialty factbook).


* Act as a central global and regional medical industry information source for the BU and a partner with the BU team. 


* Serve as a member of the Global MI Leadership team for the Global MI department function improvement.


* Participate in other projects and taskforces (i.e., Cross-BU projects) as needed.

Job Requirements

* A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required; Masters or MBA degree strongly preferred.

* Minimum 5 total years of experience inclusive of the following is required.

* Minimum 5 years of market intelligence experience (primary and secondary market research, competitive intelligence).

* Minimum 3 years of international experience in medical device industry.

* Minimum 2 years of experience in people management / development.

* Travel <20% (domestic and international).




* Experience in a role having global responsibility/exposure strongly desired.  


* Self-motivated, high commitment and dedication with proactive mind-set.

* Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills.

* Ability to understand technical and clinical aspects of business.

* Outstanding written and verbal communication.

* Detail oriented and high quality deliverables.

* Proven experience building market models at different stages of product development.

* Project management skills and the ability to multitask with detailed follow-through on deadlines.

* Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills. Ability to successfully lead cross-functional teams.

* Advanced computer proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and Access.

* Good understanding of different market research techniques/methodologies with proven experience in Customer Input Tools and Conducting Voice of Customer.

* Some knowledge of statistical analysis/financial analysis.
