Job Description

The Assistant General Counsel maintains responsibility for assisting with a broad range of litigation needs of the Company and its subsidiaries This shall include drafting pleadings, researching legal issues, developing litigation strategy and budgets, responding to discovery requests, managing outside counsel, conducting internal investigations, responding to government inquiries, issuing litigation holds, and otherwise supporting the organization’s litigation portfolio.

Job Duties

In a typical day, you will:
 

* Assist the Company with managing a variety of complex litigation matters including general commercial litigation, distributor disputes, product liability, intellectual property, and collections.

 

* Provide assistance with all aspects of discovery, including responding to interrogatories, requests for documents, requests for admissions, deposition notices, and subpoenas.

 

* Issue litigation holds and preservation instructions to internal personnel.

 

* Draft legal documents, pleadings, motions, briefs and opinions as required.

 

* Manage outside counsel and corresponding budgets and fees.

 

* Conduct internal investigations and respond to government inquiries as needed.

 

* Advise and communicate with internal clients, rendering clear legal opinions.

 

* Educate and counsel business colleagues on relevant litigation issues, and assist in the development and drafting of related policies and procedures as needed.

 

* Prepare and conduct litigation related training as required.

 

* Complete special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 

* J.D. Degree from an accredited law school.

 

* Current membership in good standing with the Pennsylvania Bar Association or the bar association of another jurisdiction.

 

* Must be licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and in good standing, or have the ability to become a Registered In House Counsel in Pennsylvania.

 

* Minimum 5 years of litigation experience at a law firm and/or in-house at mid-to-large size company with at least 2-3 years of prior in-house experience.

 

* Experience with medical devices industry is a plus.
 

* Experience directly handling or managing litigation.

 

* Experience developing litigation strategy.

 

* Experience advising clients on a broad range of litigation matters.

 

* Experience performing all aspects of discovery

 

* Experience conducting internal investigations.

 

* Experience responding to government inquiries regarding healthcare topics such as regulatory, trade compliance (import/export control), Anti-Kickback Statute and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 

* Ability to manage outside counsel in both a timely and cost-efficient manner.

 

* Demonstrated ability and resourcefulness in performing legal research using subscription-based Internet tools and free websites.

 

* Exceptionally organized and prepared to work under pressure gracefully in a fast-paced, expanding and dynamic corporate environment.
