Job Description

The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for all cost accounting and closing activities associated with our manufacturing operations, mainly for the Redmond and Brooklyn Park manufacturing sites, as well as other locations as needed. This role includes coordinating and participating in the month-end close process, ensuring the integrity of product costs, supporting project accounting, managing inventory cycle counts and controls, and conducting cost variance analysis.

Job Duties

  • Cultivate an understanding of the manufacturing processes and inform the respective plant management teams of potential issues when necessary.
  • Collaborates with finance team members on the month-end financial closing activities for multiple plants.
  • Coordinate and prepare the annual budgets and quarterly forecasts for both plant locations, considering both the cost center and the total plant.
  • Evaluation and assessment of cost-saving measures suggested by the manufacturing departments.
  • Maintain standard costs across both plants and work with IT to design and implement modifications to current systems and develop new ones.
  • Proactively developing reporting tools, analyzing information, and generating reports enables operational counterparts and management to respond effectively to potential exposures.
  • Generate weekly/monthly KPI reports on Productivity, Scrap, Work Order Variances, PPV, and Cycle Counts, among others.
  • Analyze cost accounting data and assist with cycle count/physical inventories. Maintain internal control documentation and test internal controls (JSOX). Support requirements from internal and external audit groups.
  • Prepares a detailed account analysis and reconciles sales costs and inventory liability accounts by customer type and division.
  • Conducts reviews and analyses of inventory and margin reports, undertakes research, and performs analytical studies related to cost analysis and profitability. Ensure the accurate and timely submission of inventory gross margin schedules to management.
  • Review and evaluate capital expenditure requests for proper preparation and financial documentation. Ensure timely tracking and communication of CER approvals and the closure process within the fixed asset system.
  • Project Cost Accounting involves managing all project cost centers within facilities, which includes calculating time, wages, and benefits, and manually allocate them by department and project; verify Accounts Payable and Purchasing. expenses: reconcile monthly Oracle project accounting expenses by account with Oracle General Ledger account balances, making necessary manual entries to balance as needed.
  • Engages in special projects as required and provides assistance to other members of the Finance team as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting. Must have strong knowledge of cost accounting standards & principles and the ability to analyze and reconcile complex accounts and reserves. 
  • Strong knowledge and proficiency in the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles & SOX.
  • Must possess prior working experience with an ERP or knowledge of Oracle and Hyperion.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint required.
  • Travel as required.

 

Preferred:

  • CPA or CMA designation a plus.
  • Experience in the life sciences or medical device sectors, or other regulated industries, with a desire for project cost accounting expertise.

The anticipated base pay range for this full-time position working at this location is $77,515.00 - $104,645.00 / year, plus potential for annual bonus (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements). Olympus considers a variety of factors when determining actual compensation for this position including: level of experience, working location, and relevant education and certifications.
