Job Description

The Patent Litigation Counsel manages the global litigation planning and execution to support the IP team and global business. They lead proactive actions with the global business units to defend the patents and products of the Company. They identify and reduce the litigation risks for the Company. The Patent Litigation Counsel provides litigation reports in close cooperation with regional IP. The successful candidate will control external counsel, worldwide.

Job Duties

* Works with research and development and marketing personnel, as well as patent agents and senior management, to define and implement the litigation strategy for the Corporation.

 

* Creates litigation reports and advises the Business on the litigation activities.

 

* Monitors competitive litigations and implement strategies learned.

 

* Trains staff and assists in development of staff on litigation readiness.

 

* Maintains the confidentiality of Legal Department communications and documentation.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Licensed to practice law.

 

* Minimum of 3 years law firms litigation work. Must have courtroom experience.

 

* Minimum of 3 years in-house medical device company legal/IP.

 

* Minimum of 6 years of experience in a wide array of intellectual property matters.

 

* Excellent written and oral communication skills and an attention to detail are required.

 

* Full capability using Microsoft Applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint required.

 

* Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

* Effective leadership, motivational and team building skills with ability to lead organizational change and demonstrated decision making capabilities.

 

* Strong relationship skills, ability to manage and motivate both up and down the Corporation.

 

* High energy, self-motivated, hands on and participatory with strong results orientation and ability to quickly establish priorities.

 

* Must have a sense of ownership and a desire to support the Corporation to achieve high level corporate goals. including licensing, client counselling, and trademark prosecution. 

 

* Experience managing an intellectual property group or practice.
