Job Description

The role of the Manager, Manufacturing Engineering is to effectively lead and mentor a cross functional Operations team responsible for ultimately producing high quality production. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is to establish a participative environment by being a role model, providing and facilitating communication, building a cohesive team, and recognizing/fostering individual and team development, as well as aide in defining goals, identifying training and developmental needs, removing barriers, delegating responsibility/authority as appropriate, monitoring process of the team and driving continuous improvement. 

Job Duties

  • Serves as a core team member and provide daily leadership and coaching to a cross-functional team.  
  • Develop a team culture of continuous improvement and teamwork that strives to improve in quality, safety, delivery and cost.
  • Provide timely, consistent and effective communication to all teams members, as well as across the cross functional engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with engineering staff and teams to ensure that systems and processes are effectively utilized, including Change Orders, Non-Conformance, CAPA and Complaint Processing.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of site leadership to improve the overall operations of the site and morale of the employees. 
  • Evaluate all available internal and external technologies including Automation, Process Equipment and Process Materials. Select and implement those technologies that result in lower manufacturing cost, lower process variability and higher manufacturing capability.
  • Assist in education and training of engineers, technicians, production operators/inspectors as necessary. 
  • Assesses process capabilities, prioritizes process improvement opportunities, and innovates and implements process improvements on platform or derivative projects.
  • Mentors, Trains and/or provides work direction to technicians and engineers and may train manufacturing personnel when required as part of a validation or product launch.
  • Applies technical knowledge to innovate, design, and develop processes, procedures, tooling and/or automation.
  • Executes the functional deliverables associated with the PDP, Project Management, and Quality Systems.
  • Plans, organizes, and conducts all aspects of technical reviews.
  • Ensures proper documentation is completed to meet quality systems requirements. (e.g., BOM’s, Routers, FMEA’s, etc.).
  • Reviews validation protocols and reports applicable to new processes.
  • Oversees development builds associated with the project using special work requests.
  • Provides guidance for development of qualified production lines.
  • Provides Design for Manufacturability (DFM) input to the engineering print package.
  • Contributes ideas to or generates Intellectual Property submissions.
  • Build Quality into all aspects of their work by maintaining compliance to all quality requirements.
  • All Other Essential Duties as directed.

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • BS in Engineering/Technical field.
  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience in engineering/production environment or equivalent experience; 2+ years functional management or technical project management role; Medical device experience required.

 

Preferred:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in establishing timelines.
  • Experience in launching new products into manufacturing 
  • Strong mechanical design skills including test methods and test fixture design.
  • Machine shop experience preferred.
  • Experience with statistical and analytical methods including Six Sigma, DOE and SPC.
  • Experience with implementing process improvements utilizing LEAN and Six Sigma principles and tools.

The anticipated base pay range for this full-time position working at this location is $111,675.00 - $156,345.00 / year, plus potential for annual bonus (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements). Olympus considers a variety of factors when determining actual compensation for this position including: level of experience, working location, and relevant education and certifications.
