Job Description

The primary responsibilities of the Compliance Officer include providing support to the Executive Director, Compliance Officer (EDCO) and as appropriate the Regional Chief Compliance Officer (RCCO) to define implement and lead the Olympus Compliance Management System for identified Olympus entities, divisions, business groups, or functions in the Americas (OCA Corporate (including Americas Business Service Center), OAI-MSG Commercial Operations, OAI MSG Service Delivery and Olympus Surgical Technologies America (OSTA), and Veran Medical Technologies (Veran).

 

The incumbent will work in close alignment with the EDCO as well as business group and function leadership to develop and continuously improve the Olympus Compliance Management System and will be directly responsible for supporting and providing compliance direction and guidance to assigned entities, divisions, business groups, and functions to ensure employees have the resources needed to conduct their business with the highest level of compliance and integrity. As a participant in the leadership of the assigned entities, the incumbent will engage with Olympus leadership and management on a regular basis to develop strategic priorities necessary to ensure the Company's Compliance Management System is effective and appropriate Compliance resources and support are appropriately engaged. The incumbent works with all members and levels of the Olympus Compliance Department, both at OCA and where appropriate globally, the Legal Department, HR, Finance, Internal Audit, and other functional and business areas and outside resources to ensure that Compliance Management System requirements are fulfilled in an appropriate manner.

Job Duties

* Assists the EDCO in enhancing further developing implementing maintaining continuously improving and leading OCA's Compliance Management System to ensure that it: Supports and promotes a company-wide culture of compliance; Enhances the reputation of OCA and minimizes risks of non-compliance with applicable laws and regulations; and Meets or exceeds the standards set forth in published guidance from the U.S. Federal Government.

 

* Provides advice and day to day proactive ethics and compliance guidance to OCA Corporate, OAI-MSG Commercial Operations, OAI MSG Service Delivery, OSTA and Veran.

 

* Operating domestically and globally, identifies creative compliant solutions to support the business in achieving goals and strategies leveraging other global Compliance resources as appropriate.

 

* Provide compliance direction and guidance to assigned OCA entities, divisions, business groups, and functions on a broad range of compliance obligations with Olympus policies, procedures, written standards, risks and risk minimization strategies, actual and potential compliance-related issues, continuous improvement opportunities, and corrective actions.

 

* Provides continuous leadership and collaborates with members of the OCA Compliance Department, the Global Compliance function, the OCA Legal Department, and other OCA functional and business areas within OCA to ensure that appropriate actions are taken to ensure compliance with any agreements or settlements with any government or regulatory agencies.

 

* Serve and participate as representative of OCA Compliance Department on select committees.

 

* Leads the development revision and updating of compliance policies procedures and written standards, collaborates with business stakeholders in addressing their written standards and control documentation relating to or impacting the Compliance Management System, contributes to the development, improvement, and implementation of a broad range of innovative training, education, and communication plans and tools to drive understanding of Compliance Management System requirements, and encourages employee ownership of compliance at OCA and globally. 

 

* Proactively support and perform risk assessments, monitoring, testing, and analysis processes to continuously evaluate risk areas and priorities to guide new compliance activities and continuous improvement efforts.

 

* Prepares and presents reports and dashboards to management regarding the Compliance Management System and key performance indicators to demonstrate Compliance Management System effectiveness.

 

* Possesses and maintains an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of international, federal, and state laws and regulations, as well as industry standards, trends, and developments applicable to the operations of the entities, divisions, businesses, groups, and functions supported. 

 

* Other responsibilities as directed by the EDCO, RCCO, or GCCO as appropriate and consistent with the role of the position. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

* Bachelor's Degree and MBA, LLM, J.D. or equivalent relevant knowledge and experience is required.

 

* A minimum of 10 years of compliance management system or relevant legal experience is required; medical device pharmaceutical or life science industries experience with experience implementing compliance management systems is highly preferred.

 

* Ability to travel domestically and globally up to 20%.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations impacting compliance management systems is highly preferred.

 

* Strong ability to lead through influence as well as authority with proven ability to work cross-functionally in an international context.

 

* Skill in planning and project management, and the ability to maintain composure under pressure while meeting multiple project deadlines.

 

* Demonstrated ability to think strategically and assist the organization and management of a cross functional team is necessary.

 

* Must possess excellent written verbal and interpersonal communication skills ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters and proven ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders including employees at all levels customers and third parties.

 

* Ability to work independently and build strong networks throughout the global organization.

 

* Strong project leadership skills and inclusive of team leadership style.

 

* Ability to maintain key internal relationships OCA Compliance Committee, Olympus Management, Sales, Marketing, Business Operations, Medical and Scientific Affairs, and Other Business Personnel, Human Resources, Internal Audit, Legal, and QARA.
